Pumpkin picking

5,515 total views, 1 views today

I am mega late to the party this year – well for me anyway! Usually we’re down picking pumpkins the first weekend of October but as we’ve been busy bee’s this month we’ve only just got round to it! No panic though as there were 3 fields full to the brim of orange and white pumpkins at our local pick your own, Sopley farm.

It is a pretty new tradition for us to go and pick our own pumpkins and seeing as J is older he enjoys the picking process too.

Of course you’ve got to look for the perfect pumpkin, the bright orange no bumps and huge which are the perfect ones for carving.

I quite like the oldball ones to decorate the front door area with and the mini ones to sit in our house.

I ended up going for a white pumpkin this year, I thought it looked a little different and to be honest I just wanted it!

Sopley farm is great to take the kids along as they’ve got an outdoor play area and tea’s and coffee’s for before or after your fruit and veg picking. You grab your wheelbarrow and trundle down to the fields.

We had such a lovely afternoon and look at the sky, it’s like the middle of summer again! Craaazy! If you normally pick out a pumpkin at your local supermarket I would definitely recommend going to a pick your own instead. Plus it’s the perfect way to get you in the halloween mood!

Hope you’ve enjoyed taking a peek into our afternoon at the pumpkin patch! Have you been and bought your pumpkin yet? Do you carve them of make pumpkin pies? Fun fact – I’ve never actually tried pumpkin but the seeds and bits inside have always put me off! Ha ha, I do enjoy carving them though!

See you tomorrow for another post!

That’s my local PYO! Been there for strawberries before, but not pumpkins. I think we should… good half term activity, too!

Isn’t it brilliant there! They have plenty of pumpkins! We usually go to the cat and fiddle pyo for strawberries but may try Sopley next year! X
