Foodie Friday – Las iguanas

5,892 total views, 18 views today

Another Friday is upon us – they are literally flying by aren’t they!? Well, that’s means another foodie Friday post is here and today we’re chatting about Las Iguanas! If you don’t know about them they are a fun, fresh restaurant with some incredible Latin American flavours, and we are lucky enough to have one situated at the BH2 complex in Bournemouth!

One of my absolute favourite things about las iguanas is every hour is happy hour! 2 for 1 cocktails and mocktails every hour of every day! And let me tell your their drinks are AMAZING! Now when we went last weekend, Pete and I stuck to mocktails, however I’ve had multiple of their cocktails before and can vouch for how delicious they are.

Now before we talk food – we ordered a lot, so no judgement! We have zero regrets!

First we ordered our first round of mocktails, Pete went for the guava sherbet (sweet yet slightly tangy!) and I have the raspberry cooler! Really good, and I love all the ‘funkin’ mixtures they use in their drinks

Now we decided to head to the tapas part of the menu and order a few dishes to pick from. The tapas all sounds so delicious, and we always struggle with what to pick, but as always we went for the nachos (these nachos are by far my favourite nachos!) you can add extras to go on so we also added shredded chipotle beef. The portion size is huge and honestly my mouth is watering just thinking about it! If you get one thing from this post – definitely try their nachos!

We also ordered a plate of the chicken quesadilla’s and the chicken coxinha. The quesadillas filled with chicken, peppers, o onions and cheese and packed a little spice to them!

The Coxinha is a popular Brazilian snack! Chipotle chicken wrapped potato and covered with Panko crumb and deep fried, served with a dipping sauce of sticky chilli jam!

Then we went for even more food, plus another round of drinks! Passion fruit cooler and the Rio crush! Which is now my new favourite mocktail to have – a rainbow gradient of grapefruit, passion fruit and cranberry topped with a wedge of fresh orange! Delish!

Jacob loved the nachos but was very excited for his main, the cheeseburger and curly fries. The only way I can explain the fries would be how I remember the fries being over in America. Crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside and slightly seasoned. So amazing!

I went for the chipotle chicken burrito! I love a burrito, and las iguanas does not disappoint! A huge bowl of salsa, sour cream and guacamole to dip and a full burrito stuffed with smoked chicken, rice, refried beans, crunchy slaw and cheese.

Pete is a bit of a creature of habit and is a little obsessed with their burgers, but decided to try something a little different and after browsing their Peru and beyond section of the menu he picked out the Cuban sandwich and oh my god what a great choice he made! Roasted pork belly, pulled pork, Emmental cheese finished with a sweet mustard and green pickle relish! Any meat lovers dream, served with the delicious curly fries I talked about earlier.

Jacob then went on to have chocolate brownie and ice cream for pudding which he finished within minutes as he loved it so much!

The food was beyond delicious and flavoursome, the restaurant is beautiful with atmospheric lighting, neon signs and an almost industrial feel. The service was impeccable, even with it being a busy Saturday lunch time we didn’t have to wait long for food or drinks.

A huge thank you to Las Iguanas for having us and I would fully recommend heading down to try their food and breathe in the Rio vibes, or go for 2 for 1 cocktails in their bar area! Either way you’re in for a great time!

*this meal was very kindly gifted by las iguanas for the purpose of this review, however all thoughts and opinions are as always my own!
