Alphabet dating; 26 dates with activities that are inspired from the alphabet. It is so easy to get stuck in a rut when it comes to doing something different, or making the effort to go on dates when you’re in a long term relationship. My husband and I try and keep date night alive whether that’s just the two of us or a family date with our 6 year old. We heard about alphabet dating a couple of years ago, and made our way to L. However we ran out of ideas and stopped finding the time for it. So not only are we starting again, but I’m hoping this time to bring you some inspiration if you’re struggling to think of date night ideas and want to try something different. I will be including date ideas for the two of you, dates that include your little ones if time alone is not as easy to get and ideas for you and your friends!
Now for a little disclaimer – some experiences have been gifted for the purpose of this blog post and a review however everything I write are my own thoughts and opinions and I would never recommend something I didn’t truly love or enjoy. Anything that has been gifted will be marked with a *. Now that’s out the way let’s jump straight in.
So your first date will begin with A and here are a few ideas for you!
ARCHERY & AXE THROWING *
For those of you who fancy an outdoor activity or something a little different this one is for you. We drove to Fordingbridge to Insight activities where you can learn the art of archery, axe throwing and crossbows. We started with archery, something both Pete and I had done before but not for a very long time. We were shown how to do it safely and played a few games where my competitive side started to show.
We then tried our hand at axe throwing. I had no idea what to expect and was quite nervous but found it so fun. Insight have their own custom made axes. We were shown the technique and it was incredibly satisfying getting the axe into the wood and hearing that crunch. We were shown how to do all activities correctly and safely and then were able to split off into groups to choose which we wanted to do. It was a very relaxed atmosphere, no judgement if you couldn’t do it, just helpful tips for the next round. We had such a brilliant, fun and exciting morning and I can’t recommend insight activities enough, you’ll come out feeling exhilarated and like the next Katniss Everdeen.
AFTERNOON TEA *
Afternoon tea is the perfect relaxed date, one for the foodies and even families. We headed over to the Slug and lettuce in Bournemouth and had their take on the classic treat but with a twist – a tipsy afternoon tea. Perfect for those cocktail lovers out there. Now slug and lettuce wasn’t on my radar for afternoon tea simply because I didn’t know that was something they did, however now is 100% on my list to go back and I was blown away with how great it all was. The decor, the food, the drinks and the staff. We had a table reserved at one of their booths which looked like it was straight out of a fairy tale, we were offered our first cocktail, Pete went for a daiquiri and I went for the ‘raving rainbow vibes’. The most beautiful and amazing tasting cocktail.
We were then brought out a platter of goodies – a selection of halloumi, chicken and tuna sandwiches. The traditional scones, clotted cream and jam, and the sweet treats were incredible, chocolate brownie, cookie crumb profiteroles and macaringues ( a macaron/meringue hybrid) Oh my god these were just heaven!
As we went in the early afternoon, we also took our son who they catered for with some extra cakes, a bowl of chips and lots of colouring for him – which went down a treat!
The tipsy tea is available for a very reasonable £15 pp and includes 2 cocktails each of your choice and with the beautiful whimsical setting it felt so special and relaxed.
Arcade is another brilliant family date, I have such fond memories as a kid of taking all my saved 2p’s and heading down to the 2p machines and loving every second, we go with J quite often and all of us have as much fun as each other. We tend to go to Fun central* a lot in Bournemouth who have not only the classic penny machines, pacman and air hockey but some newer style games too mario kart, guitar hero and some fairground style games. Literally something for everyone and a fun afternoon for the rainy days!
